Miss Livie is officially wearing size 6 month clothing. My baby's growing like a weed! :( We also took her down to Chicago for a Gerber casting call last week Wednesday. After getting all the way there, sitting was a requirement! Argh! I wasn't very happy with the agent about that!
She's also lost most of the hair on her hairy little ears. Yesterday, she laid under the fish playmat at my parent's house and was actually reaching for them intentionally! Also, we survived her first illness. Last week Monday and Tuesday she ran low-grade fevers and had some congestion. Luckily we were better by Wednesday.
Mr. Whitaker continues to grow and amaze us as well. He can now sing AND recognize all uppercase letters. He can also get most of the lower case letters. He's also been doing some simple addition in the car using his fingers.
In other news, I'm looking for new jobs. I had a phone interview on Friday. An in-person interview yesterday on a GI unit and another one tomorrow on a heart care unit. Wish me luck!

Park Date
Yesterday (9/5), I got an early morning text message from my friend Tracey who happens to have a son, Wyatt, who is 6 months older than Whitaker. They were going to a park in Waukesha and invited us. So, despite the 88 degree temps I agreed to meet as Whitaker has needed the interaction with others. Livian wasn't a big fan of the heat, however, and cried quite a bit, but after about 45 minutes fell asleep.
After playing on the "diggers," running on the equipment (where Whitaker hit his head so hard it knocked him to the ground) and then finally swinging (Livian fell asleep here) we went for a walk down the Glacial Drumlin Trail in search of the train tracks. Well, it was roasting hot on the asphalt we decided it was too far. We went back to our cars and drove to the train tracks.
The boys played on the tracks for just a few minutes when Wyatt fell and got a lot of owies. It was also so hot, and I had left Livian in the running car with the air on.
The hot weather warmed the pool up to 92 and Whitaker and Joe went swimming in the evening. Whitaker actually swam using my raft!!! Livian was her usual "if someone isn't holding me and walking, then I'm going to cry" mode that evening. Thus, I didn't get a chance to go in and just held her.
Edit: 10/3/12 - and as fate would have it, that was our last warm day and last anyone was able to go in the pool. :(
Yay! I have fingers!
Livian has discovered her fingers and is working very hard to try and move them on command. She stares and stares and even starts to tremble while looking at them. She's getting very good at getting her fist to her mouth when she wants to sooth herself. :/
Joe's back from his trip to Phoenix for work. The kids and I did remarkably well together. Livian cried most of Sunday. My dad came and got Whitaker that afternoon and he helped him move dirt and ride the tractor. Livian and I went and picked him up that evening. Poor Whitaker was so tired he fell asleep waiting for me to put Livian to bed. Monday we went shopping and both kids were so well behaved after a not-so-great night of sleep. In other news, I got a pair or normal waistband jeans!! Tuesday was just an at home lounging day with some cleaning. We also made a welcome home present for daddy to hang in his office - 3 canvas, each with a dinosaur painted on it.
Ashley is coming to meet Livian tomorrow and Friday we have 3-month pictures with Shannon! Saturday I return to work and couldn't be sadder about it. Tome is just going waaay too fast!!!

Thumb, finally!
We've known pretty much since birth that Livian was going to be a "sucker" to self sooth. I need to get it in writing that I was really pushing for the pacifier. THAT you can take away. The thumb, not so much. After a few weeks of really, really trying, today, Livian got her thumb. Not so much her thumb, but rather her whole fist. I guess she has to make up for lost time. The dexterity isn't there consistently, but it is getting much better. Tonight she got it twice and her smacking noise is quite loud :) Cute girl. Her determination over the last few weeks sent us out 10 days ago to Buy Buy Baby to get some swaddlers. A blanket just wasn't cutting it anymore (especially after I found it wrapped around her head one evening when I went to check on her!). That marked my first day out running errands with TWO kids (buy buy baby, bed bath and beyond, destination maternity and joann fabrics).
Livian has also been a bit under the weather. She's had a hint of congestion, a cough, some poops, spit ups, and unusually fussy for a few days now. I had made an appointment last Thursday (8/30/12), but canceled it figuring the risk versus reward wasn't there. We've just been nursing on demand (and growing like a weed to show for it!). Lots of baby snuggles as well. :)
Poor Whitaker has been a bit tied to the house because of Livian. However, we've been working hard to get him out. Last week Wednesday (8/29/12) we planned a family day for him at Little Amerricka. Well, it was 94 and sunny. Livian didn't last too long in that heat, so I ended up leaving with her, and Whitaker and Joe had a father/son afternoon. I'm not sure who enjoyed it more. :) At one point I got a text message that said "Last to start, first to finish on the go-karts. Whitaker wants to know where our trophy is." I took Livian to see the Carmichael's and then back to get my boys. Today, Whitaker got to play in the pool. I'm sure our days in that are numbered. It's getting a bit chilly, 84 degrees in the pool today. I didn't last too long in the pool, but then Joe joined him for at least another hour.
Tonight we got both kids to bed shortly after 8pm. Might be a record for us! Whitaker wanted both of us to lay with him. Isn't that sweet? Of course we did! Now Joe and I are sitting in the deck as he makes tomato jam and cans it. I found the recipe after he picked 5 pounds of cherry tomatoes today from our garden. We'll see how it ends up tasting. Can't beat a nice relaxing night. We discussed how this time next year we'll be preparing for back-to-school. For now, we're enjoying every moment of not having our babies in school yet!
I've been writing our activities on the calendar. At some point I hope to be able to "back blog." I wish at night I wasn't so exhausted. By the time I take a second to chat with my husband and catch up on our lives, watch a show, and pump some milk to create a back stock of milk for my return to work I'm so exhausted. Some day I'll regret not blogging if I don't!

Fishing and Fun Fest
On Saturday we had a lazy morning around the house, and then we headed up to Ottawa Lake Park to take Whitaker fishing. The fish didn't bite as fast and frequently as when the weather was hot, but he did get to catch a few. None big enough to keep, so now Joe is on a mission to find another lake to fish for some "keepers."
On Sunday we hit our church festival. We ended up going a bit later than we wanted, but it worked out fabulously. My mom had gotten back from taking care of Great-Grandma, so my mom and dad could join us there. That made Whitaker really happy! We also ran in to Joe's co-worker and our new photographer. Whitaker enjoyed "fishing for money" where he won 2nd prize with my mom and "ping-pong balls for fish." We all also took a hayride while my mom pushed Livian in the stroller. Later, Whitaker wanted to take Joanie on a ride as well. While my parent's and Whitaker took their hay ride, I sent Joe to try and win a fish for Whitaker. On ball 12, he did. Proud dad moment. It was a wonderful way to spend an afternoon as a family. :)
It was a very fishy weekend!

Commercial, 1-Month Doctor Visit
On Wednesday my mom and dad (took a half day of vacation)came over to watch Livian while I took Whitaker to film his first commercial! It was for SC Johnson, however, it's for internal use only and we won't get to see it. Bummer! It took only 18 minutes to film. Amazing. Totally a great payout. All Whitaker had to do was play with some wooden blocks on a wood floor. We were home fast enough that Livian didn't even need to try and take a bottle from my mom.
Then, on Thursday Livian had her 1-month doctor check-up. She's growing like a weed. She was 22 inches and 10 pounds 4 ounces! She grew 2 inches and almost 2 pounds on one month! Unreal. Time is just going too fast. She can't fit in any newborn clothes anymore and is wearing her 3 month stuff, though the sleepers are still too big. We also talked about her head. It's a bit asymmetrical, so we'll look at it again at 2 months and she may need the Doc Band.
On Friday we tried pictures with a different photographer - Michelle Moser. I'm anxious to see how they turn out. It was a bit chilly and SUPER windy!
I guess that's all for now :)

Can you believe it?
It's been one MONTH since I started labor. One month ago today Whitaker was begging to go swimming. I told him "later" so I could lay on the couch while he watched TV because I was too exhausted (and huge) to do much else.
Well, about 2 o'clock I went to the bathroom and there was some blood. It wasn't until then that I realized "today could be the day." We put on our swimming suits because I needed to make sure I followed through on my promise to go swimming! We called daddy to make sure he was ready, and then we swam. It was such a wonderful "last swim." For the first time ever, Whitaker came up with his own ideas to race. We did several laps back and forth across the pool. Each time Whitaker would come up with a new idea, running one foot, then the other foot, etc.
After swimming we came in and I called work to see if they were going to need me on the weekend. Well,t hey needed me that night (Friday). I was afraid to commit as I didn't know if I was really in labor, or not. Thankfully, they got help from float pool and didn't need me at all.
Joe came home from work a tad early that evening, but he also head a hair cut appointment. He wasn't sure if he should go. I had him go. While he was gone my parent's called to see if they should come pick up Whitaker in case I was in labor we wouldn't have to wake everyone up in the middle of the night. Well, then my mom said we should wait until Joe got home so he could say goodnight to him. Well, we couldn't decide if I was in labor or not, and if we wanted to send Whitaker or not, so at 9:00pm I called them and it was just too late. In hindsight, I'm glad I had that one last night to put Whitaker to bed.
I spent the rest of the evening talking with Jen Hardin about photography and contacting someone to capture the birth. Well, the price was super high and after 11pm we decided to not spending that money on it (thank goodness).
At this point I had Joe timing contractions (which we were all terrible at). I don't know what time we tried to lay down, but the contractions were keeping me up. Then I tried to take a shower and they got MUCH more intense and frequent. They slowed back down when I got out. I laid down again and decided we needed to call my parent's. I'm not sure what time that was either, maybe 3-something. What I do know is we got in the truck and it was 4:33am. I don't know why that time stuck with me, but it did.
When we got to the hospital I was about 3.5cm dilated. I was a little discouraged by that. I got in the tub and did nearly all of my laboring there (with the exception of when they had to check me). Although, I wasn't sure it was going to work - it made me start to vomit. However, it worked very well. By shortly after 8am I was fully dilated! That meant that I couldn't get my epidural because they had stalled me. Dr. Joy got there and broke my water at 8:34 and little Livian Grace was born at 8:59am - 8 pounds, 5 ounces and 20 inches long! It was not a painless experience!
There you have it, what happened 1 month ago! I started this post yesterday afternoon and I'm finishing it today, just like labor and delivery :) She's looking much, much bigger today swinging in her swing than she did the moment they laid that slimy little baby on me.

Maybe Baby?
Oy! It's probably going to be impossible to catch everyone up at this point. It's all a blur. Also, Hubby's 1st anniversary gift... out the window! Do we all remember ages ago (my last post) how Whitaker made us pick an extra pumpkin? Well, turns out I was, in fact, pregnant with his little sister, but we didn't know it yet!!!
We welcomed little Livian Grace on 7/7/12 at 8:59am. She was 20 inches long and weighed 8 pounds, 5 ounces. When they laid her on me, no one thought she was that big. She's been a GREAT baby and sleeper. She's giving us some decent stretches of sleep, and she barely cries!
That being said, she hasn't been too, too easy on us. She made is to 21 days of life before she made her first ER visit. Her umbilical cord site didn't heal very well. So, I took her in to the doctor last Friday and they cauterized it. Then, it was still red Saturday, so I took her back in where they gave us a topical antibiotic. Of course, no pharmacy had it in stock, so Joe drove to Pewaukee to get then. Then, she isn't on my insurance yet, so we had to pay full price if $125. I put the ointment on, and her belly got all red, so I called the on-call MD and we had to go to the ER. Thankfully, the ointment had "washed out" some of the silver nitrate on to her skin and "burned it." Thus, the redness was "burn" and not infection, THANK GOD.
Whitaker also had not 1, but 2 rounds of antivirals for some "mouth owies." So, he went and stayed at Joanie and Grandpa's for a week, and then sporadically after that. Last night we had his last t-ball game, which Joanie and Grandpa also came to.
I'll try to post a blog with some actual dates on it sometime when I get a moment to myself. Right now there's a crying baby. :)

The Key
Oy! I've started this blogging thing in the past, but it became very apparent that all of my posts were titled, "Catching Up." It's my goal to not repeat that!
Let's see. I left you off last when we picked up "The Key" to our new (rental) home in Eagle. It was wonderful. It feels far more like a home than any other place we've ever lived previously. It was nice to stand in our empty kitchen and just hug.
Saturday we headed out to Barthel's Fruit Farm in Mequon to pick apples and pumpkins. Let's see, 3 years running now we have ended pumpkin picking with a fever from Whitaker. How wonderful. Whitaker also picked a 4th pumpkin. You know, the one for his baby sister! Hmmm... wonder what he knows that we don't. Never fear, per Whitaker, she's wearing a white shirt :) He ran the fever for 4 days.
It would be wonderful to write more about my new husband, but here's how it all went down. Whitaker had his fever which was making him very grumpy, and along with that we were packing and moving which was very clearly stressing him out. So, he and I packed up and we went to stay with my parent's while Joe went to work and would head home to pack up the house. I'd join him for a few hours in the evening, but usually I was more of a hinderance than a help :)
Thursday, Whitaker's fever had broke, so we went to the courthouse to get our marriage license and also went to the social security office to officially change my name. There's my fact of the week for my husband - he won't have a wife that won't share his last name ;)
On Friday, Joe rented a truck and he moved all of the boxed items to the new house. Meanwhile, I took Whitaker to another Kohl's photo shoot where they actually used him for 2 outfits instead of just 1 on a whim because he's soo good :) Then, it was off to the DMV to get my new driver's license where we met up with Grandpa.
On Monday, after a long weekend of work with very little sleep I added Joe to my insurance. Slowly but surely, our married life is coming together! Joe continues to work on the old house ever night after work while I am on kid duty.
My husband fact for this week. He hates moving just as much as I do, but he's an amazing man as he did 99% of this move!!! I'm a VERY lucky lady. :)

Day 6
There you have it. We've been married 6 whole days and we couldn't be happier.
Yesterday was a big day for us. We are no longer preventing pregnancy via artificial birth control. Now, let's not get ahead of ourselves... we aren't TRYING for pregnancy, we just aren't actively preventing it. When we took our vows together, we agreed we will freely welcome children as God gives them to us. I wasn't sure this was a place Joe & I would ever be, and here we are. :)
Last night I also learned Joe is also a much "softer" man than I had thought. We had both been in agreement that things wouldn't change after we were married. After all, we'd always been told nothing would. We feel that was very incorrect. We DO feel different! I feel my love for Joe is much stronger than before. I think he'd say the same about me. Last night as we were laying in bed having our pillow chat he turned and said to me, "It's like you hold a very special place in my heart now. A space I didn't even know was there, but you have it now."
Who would have thought this blog would only be about Joe and I? Of course it isn't... There's our lovely little man, Whitaker, too. Today we were early risers as he had another modeling job with Kohl's. He was the intended back-up kid, but after giving the first kid a chance, they chose Whitaker hands down (they got him dressed, hair, makeup and the shot in under 15 minutes). This was followed by a lunch date with Grandpa. It was very exciting to be able to prick Grandpa up from work!
Tonight is another very big step for our family. We pick up the keys to our rental house in Eagle. We do have that extra bedroom now ;)
With Love,
Missy C.

We're Married!!!
That's right, folks. Joe and I are finally Mr. & Mrs. Joseph Carmichael after 5 long years!!! We couldn't be happier :) Join us on our journey through our first year of marriage as I make things public - the happy, the sad, the stuggles, but most importantly - the FUN.
I'll admit, Joe was a little shocked when I told him, "I already have your 1st anniversary gift planned!" I think I read somewhere that the 1st anniversary gift should be paper, right? Well, I plan to publish this blog into a book to present to Joe for our anniversary. Thus, my goal will be to keep this blog a secret from him. Shhhh...
The next goal of mine will be to try and learn one new thing, or fact, about Joe each week and publish it here. The first is that he's a grammar and punctuation whore. I know the first thing he'll do as he's reading the blog is to correct all of my grammar, wording, and spelling errors as he reads through it :)
That's all for now. Be back soon for more updates, but I knew I just needed to get this started or I never would!!!
Love,
